The immune system of newborn babies is immature, and they are more susceptible to infection by germs. Therefore, mothers must thoroughly disinfect breast pump accessories before using them. Below are our recommended cleaning and disinfection methods.
Preparation before disinfection:
1. Clearly understand which breast pump accessories must be sterilized
- It is recommended that mothers clean and disinfect the accessories that come into direct contact with breast milk for the first time or after each use, including: breastfeeding horn, silicone spout, silicone teat, milk storage bottle, etc., to ensure hygiene.
- Accessories that do not come into direct contact with breast milk, including: anti-reflux devices and hoses, must be cleaned with cleaning solution before first use, then rinsed with clean water and air-dried, after each subsequent use, only need to be wiped with a damp cloth and Let dry. If there is coagulation or milk in the hose, please wash it with cleaning solution and dry it immediately.
2. Select the appropriate disinfection method
- It is recommended that mothers use boiling disinfection method, which is safe and effective to kill germs.
- If you use an electronic sterilizer, please pay attention to the temperature when the product is sterilized. Mothers can choose an ultraviolet UV sterilizer that is dried and sterilized at low temperature to avoid the possibility of deformation or damage of accessories due to high temperature during disinfection.
- Do not use a microwave for disinfection.
1. Before first use
Disassemble and clean all breast pump accessories with cleaning solution, then rinse thoroughly with water. Put the accessories to be sterilized into the pot, fill with cold water to cover all the accessories, the depth of the water should not allow the accessories to touch the bottom of the pot. Cover the pot, bring the water to a boil and continue for another 2-3 minutes before turning off the heat. Be careful not to place the breast pump in boiling water for more than 5 minutes, otherwise it may be deformed and affect the use effect.
The cleaned and sterilized accessories can be air-dried on a clean paper towel and allowed to cool naturally, and then stored in a clean storage box or refrigerator for later use.
2. After each use
Disassemble and clean the breast pump accessories (except the backflow preventer and hose) with cleaning solution, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Put the accessories to be sterilized into the pot, fill with cold water to cover all the accessories, the depth of the water should not allow the accessories to touch the bottom of the pot. Cover the pot, bring the water to a boil and continue for another 2-3 minutes before turning off the heat. Be careful not to place the breast pump in boiling water for more than 5 minutes, otherwise it may be deformed and affect the use effect.
The cleaned and sterilized accessories can be air-dried on a clean paper towel and allowed to cool naturally, and then stored in a clean storage box or refrigerator for later use. As for the anti-reflux device and hose, just wipe it with a damp cloth and let it air dry. If there is coagulation or milk in the hose, please wash it with cleaning solution and dry it immediately. If you need to clean the surface of the breast pump body, wipe it with a slightly dry damp cloth.
